Knock Off Lamp
Josh Owen, 2002
Polypropylene
18" H

Josh Owen designed the Knock Off lamp to be off when it’s on its side and on when it’s standing up. The activity becomes the switch. Owen, an educator and industrial designer whose work is in the permanent collections of museums including the Centre Pompidou and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, first established his own studio in 1997 beneath his loft apartment in a retrofitted cigar factory in Bella Vista. In 2011 he moved his studio to Rochester, NY, where he is now Chair of the Industrial Design department at the Rochester Institute of Technology. This lamp, from Owen’s fertile “Philadelphia period,” was originally licensed to Bozart, a now defunct Philadelphia-based company that specialized in designer objects, and later re-licensed to Kikkerland, Inc.
